SVMS UNITES AGAINST BULLYING!!!

October is National Bullying

Prevention Month

http://www.pacer.org/bullying/nbpm/

The End of Bullying Begins with Me: that’s the message during PACER’s National Bullying Prevention Month in October. It’s a time when communities can unite nationwide to raise awareness of bullying prevention through events, activities, outreach, and education. Resources from PACER’s National Bullying Prevention Center make it easy to take action.

On Wednesday, October 10th, Smithson Valley Middle School will honor all those students who have stood up against bullying and those who have themselves been bullied.  We are asking all students, faculty and staff members to wear ORANGE to school to show their support for National Bullying Prevention Month.

Wednesday during all lunches, SVMS Student Council members will be set up at a table in the cafeteria and will be asking Mustang students to sign their name on a poster pledging that they will not bully others nor will they sit back and silently watch others who are being bullied!

Mark your calendar now and make plans to wear orange on Unity Day. That’s when scores of people around the country will join the movement to “Make it Orange and Make it End!”

WEAR ORANGE ON WEDNESDAY OCTOBER 10th!!!

Rolling Along

Whew!

A couple weeks down and things are rolling fast and furious.  The first two weeks seemed to be consumed with student schedule changes and welcoming our new students to SVMS.  Mrs. Esparza and I have so many wonderful teachers and staff that we work with and are so grateful for their patience and understanding during this hectic and sometimes confusing time.

Academic counseling began last week and it was a success.  Each week the counselors receive a list of students who present that they are struggling in at least one class.  The students on this list are called into Mrs. Esparza's or my office so we can work together to try and get a plan in place to make sure they will bring up their grade(s).  Academic counseling will be utilized every single week of the school year!  Our students MUST be successful in the classroom.

Our cross country and volleyball teams are off to a FANTASTIC start!!!  Both our boys and girls won the cross country meet they ran in this past weekend!!!  AWESOME!!!  7th and 8th grade Volleyball have participated in a couple of scrimmages and are showing that they are READY to compete and WIN!!

Gifted and Talented (GT) testing for new students to Comal ISD have been completed and we are anxiously awaiting the results to come in next week.

The Mustang faculty and staff are having to say good-bye to some of our SVMS family members.  Margaret Hamiltion, 6th grade history team leader/teacher, will be moving to Support Services (Central Office), Linda Mercer, our para-professional instructional aide will be working at Startzville Elementary School and Victoria Simpson, the head Child Nutritionist in the cafeteria will be leading the crew at Canyon Lake High School.  We wish them the best and want them to remember that they will ALWAYS be cherished members of our SVMS family.

Lastly, I would like to take this moment to welcome our new 6th grade history teacher, Mrs. Bonnie Jakob.  Bonnie comes to us after spending a few years at home raising her two young sons.  Previous to her working at home, Bonnie taught Government and Economics at Smithson Valley High School.  We are excited to have Mrs. Jakob join our Mustang family and we KNOW that her students will LOVE her.

Thanks for all your support!  If you have any questions or concerns do not hesitate to call!

GO MUSTANGS!!!!!

And Were Off!!!!

What a great start to the 2012-13 school year!  I have to say that for me, the first day of school just FLEW by!

There are many things happening around school right now:
When I drive into the parking lot, both in the morning and the afternoon, I see a bunch boys working hard to make the Mustang football team.

Girls are in the gym giving it their best to earn a spot on the volleyball team.

This morning, I saw a whole bunch of dedicated cross country athletes running around the school logging in their weekly miles.  GREAT JOB MUSTANGS!!

This morning, Mr. Cooper mentioned that he is getting geared up to launch the Rocket Club!  HOW EXCITING!!!

The band directors and choir director are thrilled with the enormous amount of talent that have entered their programs.

Ms. Logan has mentioned the upcoming Theatre performance that she is considering putting on this fall.  You all will LOVE IT!

The Librarian is beyond excited to have students visit her library.  Ms. Patterson has done a fabulous job preparing the library for ALL the students.  Please visit her and the library!!

Senora Hoffman's classes are already singing in Spanish!  MUY BUENO!!!

What an honor and privilege it is for me to be a part of this fantastic campus!!!  I LOVE IT!!

When all the hectic things that a counselor has to do the first few days of school start to ease up, I promise to post pictures on this blog of all the Mighty Mustang Moments!

MUSTANGS ROCK!!!
